Facing our plastic waste crisis: biorecycling as a promising solution

نویسندگان

چکیده

We are in a global plastic waste crisis. Plastic production has steadily increased over the last half century, while recycling rates remain as low 9% some nations, including Australia. Most ends up landfill or environment lost resource, triggering of more virgin to satisfy demands. Shifting away from this wasteful, linear economy towards circular economy, where products treated valuable resource and recycled, will require considerable innovative advancements our current methods. Biological (biorecycling) emerged promising solution, with several advantages mechanical chemical recycling. Using enzymatic reactions, long polymers cut into monomers without need for high temperatures catalysts, affecting product quality. Biorecycling allows sustainable, commercially viable near-infinite synthetic polymers. In paper, we discuss reasons crisis, compare methods focus on biorecycling explore commercial ventures enzyme-based technologies. present recent developments enzyme discovery, characterisations protein engineering. Finally, propose strategy move by embracing biorecycling.

Increased Elderly Utilization of Psychiatric Emergency Resources as a Reflection of the Growing Mental Health Crisis Facing Our Aging Population.

The elderly population continues to soar in the United States, with the number of those older than 65 years expected to double from 2010 to 2050. Many are predicting an imminent mental health crisis for our seniors, as available resources lag further behind the demand. One contributing factor is the evergrowing number of individuals with dementia-related behavioral symptoms. In Hawaii, a top re...

Gasification of plastic waste as waste-to-energy or waste-to-syngas recovery route

The disposal of plastic solid waste (PSW) has become a major worldwide environmental problem. New sustainable processes have emerged, i.e. either advanced mechanical recycling of PSW as virgin or second grade plastic feedstock, or thermal treatments to recycle the waste as virgin monomer, as synthetic fuel gas, or as heat source (incineration with energy recovery). These processes avoid land fi...
